# opensiro brand assets

Copyright © 2026 opensiro. All rights reserved.

The `opensiro` name, wordmark, mascot, and official logo family are brand
identifiers. This policy does not claim that `opensiro` is a registered
trademark, and the registered-trademark symbol (`®`) must not be used unless a
valid registration applies.

This file governs use of opensiro brand assets. It is separate from the MIT
license that applies to the repository's open-source site and tooling code.

## Covered brand assets

Unless a file states otherwise, the following current assets are opensiro brand
assets and are **not licensed under the repository MIT license**:

- `assets/mascot-logo.png`
- `assets/mascot-logo.gif`
- `assets/mascot-logo-editable.gif`
- `assets/mascot-favicon.png`
- `assets/favicon-64x64.png`
- `assets/favicon-64x64-dark.png`
- `assets/logo/`
- `assets/opensiro-mark.svg`
- future files explicitly identified as an official opensiro mascot, logo,
  symbol, or wordmark

The copyright notice for those original opensiro brand assets is:

> © 2026 opensiro. All rights reserved.

Third-party material incorporated into or distributed alongside a brand asset
keeps its own license and copyright. In particular, the bundled typefaces remain
subject to their SIL Open Font License notices.

## Uses allowed without separate permission

You may use the unmodified opensiro name or official marks when reasonably
necessary to:

- identify or link to the official opensiro project, website, or repositories;
- refer factually to opensiro in documentation, research, news, reviews, or
  presentations;
- show screenshots of opensiro software or websites;
- state truthful compatibility or integration with opensiro, provided the use
  does not imply sponsorship, endorsement, or official status.

Keep the mark secondary to your own identity and make the relationship clear.

## Uses that require permission

Do not use the opensiro name, mascot, or official logos in a way that could
reasonably make a third party appear to be opensiro or officially endorsed by
opensiro. In particular, do not use them as:

- the primary logo or identity of another company, product, service, or fork;
- confusingly similar branding for a redistributed or modified project;
- a claim of sponsorship, partnership, certification, or endorsement that has
  not been granted;
- official-looking merchandise or other commercial branding.

Modified versions of the mascot or logos are not automatically official
opensiro marks.

## Historical license grants

Earlier published revisions of this repository expressly included some mascot
artwork under the MIT license. This policy does **not** purport to revoke
copyright permissions already granted for copies obtained under those earlier
revisions. The current repository revision and future brand-asset revisions use
the boundary documented here.

Copyright licensing and trademark/brand rights are separate. A copyright grant
for an earlier asset does not by itself represent sponsorship, endorsement, or
permission to present another project as opensiro.

## Other repository material

Original source code and documentation not excluded by this policy remain under
the repository `LICENSE`. Third-party fonts, ARCTIC-derived material, and other
separately identified artifacts retain their stated upstream licenses.
